Last night, after being out for a meal to celebrate my daughter's 12th birthday, we returned home to find our cat Sally bleeding from her behind. Her legs were all wobbly and she was lethargic.

We took her to the vet knowing it was serious.

at 11.30pm she was put to sleep having suffered acute kidney failure.

The day before, she seemed fine.

We are all gutted.

Not the best of birthday's for my daughter.

:(

No her uretha....(sp) where the wee wee comes from.

We got her from the RSPCA 4 years ago and thought she was relatively young cos she was very small.

Turns out the vet thought she must have been at least 10 or more....

She was the most laid back gentle cat ever. Never scratched anyone, never scratched the furniture. Never killed anything (to my knowledge) and was a real people cat. Unusually, the more people around the more she liked it.

Bugger.....I feel shit.

It has been discussed and we have all agreed to wait a few months out of respect for Sally.

acute kidney failure??
if it was a human the outcome would be very different
thats the problems with animals and babies its difficult to see it is having problems if it cant communicate.
A friend of mine luckily noticed and saved their 1 day child from crib death, baby is in inteensive care now...doing better...

sorry to hear that. :(

I agree with waiting a while before buying a new cat, you can't just replace it like that. ;)

Thats the thing about having pets. You become so attached to them, and when they pass away its a difficult thing.

Sorry to hear that Sara :(
I got that to come, sooner than I'd like I think, I'm slowly loosing my cat, her back has dropped and she's getting wobbly, lost her voice etc, she's about 16 :(

Why do we have pets? just to torture ourselfs :frusty:

I'm very sorry to hear that Sara. :(

@ Jonno - we have pets because of the countless hours of love, fun and companionship they bring us. The heartbreak of losing a pet is far outweighed by the amazing happiness we feel during their lives.

As I type this, my cat Squeaky is lying on my lap, purring, and snuggling me.

Thanks for all your comments. They are all very much appreciated. :)

Things are getting back to normal now, kids are so resiliant!

One is out with her mate, and my son is playing with his friend on the PS2.

I am here :)

Bf is watching telly and the sun is shining....

We all know we will eventually experience the loss of our pets, it is a known outcome.

For yours to be fine the day before, then dead the next indicates death without suffering or discomfort. Kidney failure is a good way to go as you just get drunk and sleepy.

Sorry about your cat, but for the cats sake, it was not a bad way to go.

Sorry for your loss.

As hobbes describes it her passing seems like a decent way to go.

Poor Sally. As Sara is my daughter,I knew this little cat. She was the most gentle cat I ever met and over the years I have had many. I know the kids must have been devastated and what a horrible way to finish an evening out !!
Sara, both me and Dad feel for you and it makes our Muffet even more precious.
