Lond story short, my current dvd writer is fucked, doesnt burn right (it kinda bruns a disc fine but on certain parts the dye isnt burned on hard enough) causes all kinda errors. About 50% coasters now and iv had enough so whats the best DVD RW drive with these kinda spec:

- & + Support
RW Support
Dual Layered Support (Even if its not very fast)
8X Speed min and 16X would be ideal and im willing to pay more for 16X
OEM (Im not paying extra for a nice cable and software i already have)
Internal & IDE
Brand doesnt matter to much.
CD-R & CD-RW 52X speed burning (This is standard anyway)

I've heard that a NEC is good and that people praise a certain model but cannot remember.

The drive will be used for burning 2-5 DVDs a day at 4X & 8X, mostly Xbox, PC & DVDr.

Havn't decided on a budget yet as i want to see how much im gonna need to pay for a good one. Im UK and will be shopping online (www.ebuyer.co.uk (http://www.ebuyer.co.uk) is where i'll be ordering from but if they dont have the drive thats the best i'll look else where)

I was looking at a few models and they were much cheaper than i expected (Like £30) so what do people think of these:

Samsung TS-H552U 16x16x DVD R/RW Internal IDE OEM (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=7477636660&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=83668)

Samsung TS-H552UB 16x16x DVD R/RW IDE Internal OEM Black (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=7477636660&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=83669)

The LiteOn SOHW-1673S is also good, http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=85291

I got the LiteOn SOHW-1673S for my dad last week. If i was buying one for myself i would buy that or a NEC.

NEC 3540 (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=7482343011&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=89187)

I was going to get the NEC 3520 a few weeks back but had to hold off. When I eventually found the time, and cash I purchased a load of items, with one being the newer NEC model. Runs like a charm. Highly recommended.

Also, I tend to get my hardware from Aria (http://www.aria.co.uk/) so check them out as they also price match ;)

The NEC ND-3540A is the replacement for the NEC ND-3520A.

Higher recording speeds:
CD RW @32x (24x)
DVD+RDL @8x (4x)
DVD-RDL @6x (4x)
DVD-RW @6x (4x)

All that for only about £3 more. :w00t:

Was just ordering and was thinking to myself might as well pick up some discs, only problem is i cannot find my normal discs (Infiniti Samurai) in the 8 speed version, Ebuyer only seem to stock the 16 speed which is nearly double the price. So does anyone have any good media reccomendations? I'll be shopping from Ebuyer again. Doesn't matter if tis packs of 25, 50 or 100, but must be:

DVD-R Media, at least 4 speed, 8 speed max.
Single Layer
White top/printable is prefered but not needed.
Quite Cheap, no more than £5 for 25

Thanks again.

Oh and by the way, brought 100 of these:

Bulkpaq 8x DVD-R Printable 25pk (CMC Dye) (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=7490147717&action=c2VsZWN0X3Byb2R1Y3Rfb3ZlcnZpZXc=&product_uid=89008)

And i've tried on two different DVD Burners, one of them would only burn at 2 speed, and the other would attempt to burn at 4 speed but ending up burning at 0.1 speed, meaning it took me 8 and half hours to burn 1 dvd!

They were cheap though :P

Drive came today, put it in and booted up Windows, Windows reconised it and said it had installed so opened Nero and Nero froze when it says Checking SCIA/IDE channels or something like that. A120% Says the drive is the Nex 3540A and lets me click an image to burn but a soon as i push start that crashes. DVD Decrypter stops responding when its loading the SCIA/IDE channel info as well.

I removed my other drive (a standard DVD-rom) and its still doing it, its not a jumper problem.

Any ideas?

Hmmmmmm went into Device manager and uninstalled it. Then restarted and let Windows reinstall it, and A120% is burning fine now at speeds of 4X (Even tho the disc is 8X and i selected 6X  ) Either way its the cheapy discs so its all good.
