I dont know why the prices are so cheap right now.... maybe because r520 and geforce7 have been anounced... but anyways, you can pick up some really good video cards on ebay for super cheap

radeon 9700- $60
radeon 9800- $80
geforce 5900 - $80

these were cards selling for $200 not a month ago... a radeon 9700 will play any game out today (doom3, hl2) in high quality, easily.

Because all those cards are dinosaurs, soon to be extinct.
No vendor wants to be sitting on a stock of cards that no one will want, hence the lower prices.

Yes, it is.

A very viable approach to computers involves deliberately staying a step and a half behind current tech.
Being content with (slightly) older stuff means you can always be taking advantage of "close out" deals.
There is a limited window of opportunity involved however.
Parts can go from the Bargain Bin to Unobtainable quickly.

You talkin a radeon 9800 pro or just 9800? *licks lips* mmm mmm, would be jolly to upgrade to that 9800 pro for less than $100, since ma 9500 pro is half the speed.

I don't think that's a pro. The package shows SE:

The Powercolor 9800 Pro would have this box:
