Do any of you guys have higher end ATI cards like the X800 series and up? I was just curious to know how they perform on more practical systems. :01:

Dunno' about the latest gen cards, but the 9800XT handles antialiasing better than a comparable NVIDIA card, I think  At least it looks that way to me.

If they've stayed true to form I reckon they'll make for a smoother picture. I still prefer NVIDIA, 'cos their drivers aren't as buggy, and their linux-support doesn't suck balls, but ati cards can certainly make games look nice.

Cool, My friend has a 9600XT which isnt great but on his 2.8 ghz compaq It gets some good fps on Counter-Stirke Source. This may sound stupid but because of that im goin for an ATI based card, the X800PRO for my new comp (PCI-E). Hopefully I wont be dissapointed.

no. ati cards this gen suck. trust me. the only thing your going to beat nvidia in is hl2. thats it. and the funny part, is the 6600gt beats the x700 from nvidia in hl2.

By definition, a "practical" system wouldn't have a high end card.
To make any use of these cards at all requires a pretty advanced (hence, impractical) machine.

Ya, but alot of reviews on these higher end cards are on pretty high end machines

You just made my point whilst completely missing it at the same time.
You're not schitzophrenic at all, are you?

I have a 9600XT. It's quite nice, considering it's low end.

Nice, is it an actual ATI or an ati based card made by a different manufacturer?

It's an ATI Viper Diamond. I don't know if it's made directly by ATI or not, but you can decide from the info I just gave you.

hey, I would be overjoyed with an ATI x800, since all I got is this 'ere ATI 9500 Pro. Still holds up with decent fps if I do say so myself, but not in hl2 with highest graphics :(.
