Zalman, apparently fed up with their reputation as quiet but wimpy cooling providers, has gone for the gusto.

Looks like it might tame even the most ferocious Preshot as well as making a great smoothie.

For some reason, every time I look at the pic I'm reminded of the woodchipper scene from Fargo.

is it a joke.

Drawing an impressive 1400Watts of power, Zalman include a full instruction booklet on how to daisy chain 5 300W PSU’s together to power the fan, and you get 50 starter cartridges free to get it spinning in the first place. Of course, you’ll need a serious case upgrade too, and we would recommend the CoolerMaster 821 Garage, which comes with a tasteful variety of electronic doors and leaves enough room for even the largest GFX cards in SLI and a Nissan Micra too.

I don't think so.
It looks way too finished to be a prototype.

The commentary is a bit sarcastic though.

Actually, I'm now guessing that this is a display model, not the real product.
It would be impossible to fit that into any case known to man....

I read a bunch of the /. comments and it appears to be real, and that the picture is just of an enlarged to show detail type model.

that seems like the answer yes.....

25 cubic meters of air per second is a HUGE amount, which i doubt could be reached by a fan that size if not spinning at immense speeds.......

They only had 6 cartridges to start the engine on Flight of the Phoenix.

If this needs 25 cartridges, it must be immense!!!111BBQ1!
