Basically, all you can do is Turn your Monitor off........

All that will do is kinda put your Monitor in 1/2 or 1/3 power mode..
I have mine set to do this after 3 hours on none use.

monitors do use quite a bit.
i'm not sure if it's more than the actual computer, probably close tho.

you can't ahve any part of the computer turn off other than the monitor or your downloads would stop :P

If you have multiple drives, you could possibly set them to power down when not in use, but the saving would be minimal.

As everyone else has said, the monitor is the big power hog, particularly older ones. I have mine set to power off after 5 minutes, the temperature difference that makes during a hot summer is quite astounding. And since heat can only come from electricity used...

Do you have a CRT or LCD monitor?
LCDs use less power.
