Ive been keeping my eye on this one for some time:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16824209002

But the price went up $10.

Or maybe this one?

Rosewill R710E Black 17" 16ms LCD Monitor

Stick with known brands.

Here's a possibility: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824005019

Forgot to include... no mail-in rebates. Hate waiting 6-8 weeks to get my money back :p

I checked the reviews on the 8-cube and alot of people are reporting no dead pixels.

I see you are over the 5k mark VB :)

I wouldn't buy an LCD that I couldn't see in person first.
Product specs cannot give you the same info that your actual eyes can provide.

That said, I realize not everyone has the luxury of comparative viewing so....

IMO, for general usage, the most important spec to look for is viewing angle.
There is nothing worse than being locked into a narrow range of position just to see the screen properly.
My screen for instance, has a viewing angle of 170 degrees, both up/down and side/side.
That's about as good as it gets.

New screens (Samsungs I believe) have dropped the response times to sub-5ms range which would be nice, assuming the view angle doesn't suffer in the process ( I haven't seen one yet).

As always, prices will continue to drop, so waiting a while longer might be worth it.

One word of advice, when cleaning a LCD screen do not use a liquid as (from experience :frusty: )the screen absorbs it..Whoops.
Anyone got any advice on the best way to clean an LCD screen :)

go for something with high contrast ratio, and low response time

i have 2 19" lcd's by GEM for $229 each after rebate. i think the rebate's over now though. but they're amazing lcd's. 700:1 contrast ratio, 16 ms response time (not so great), but hell, it's cheap!

I would steer clear of any Rosewill products. It seems to be the Newegg generic brand and historically is a cheaply made product.

LCD's are bad for games when there response time is to high, usually above 20ms, the frame rate of the game moves faster than the monitors pixels can change colors and you get a ghosting effect, but with the newer monitors this is no longer a problem.

Yeah I hear samsung is really good.

What is the contrast ratio exactly and what does it mean?

contrast ratio is how clear the difference is between 2 contrasting colors. higher contrast ratio means sharper more crt-like images. i had a 19" with 500:1 contrast ratio. and games sucked in it. movies sucked too. the 2 i use now are 700:1, and they're just gorgeous
