Too much work to turn it off. Plus I need to leave downloads on overnight to seed.

I turn it off at night cause my dad gets mad if i leave it on, plus it heats my room too much so it's ahrd to sleep.

Leaving it on to download gta:sa tonight tho. :01:

Nope. Can't sleep cause of the humming of the fans.

At Uni i left it on to drown out the noise from outside and to download overnight. Also i download from IRC a lot and a send slot usually opens during the night

Unless I'm mistaken, how is this possible? The ethernet is connected from your PC to modem / router right? Wouldn't the modem / router either be inside the PC (as in modem only) or on your desk (as in either if external) thus would be plugged into the mains via surge protector?

its supposed to be good to leave ur PC on as opposed to turning it on and off
because the metal in the circuits expand in the heat and retracts when it cools
constant expanding and retracting wears the components

any way
no i dont leave mine on :P

The only time I turn my P.C off is for a rebbot maybe once a week or so, or if Im having problems with it.

Mostly I just refresh explorer.exe. Plus my comp becomes alive at night as it defrags and scans for nasties and what not, so yes I leave mine on for way more that 24 hours.

Power Surge came through Cable Line, through Modem, than burned out Motherboard, Processor, Modem & Surge Protector...
New Protector has a Cable Protector..old one didn't.
Everything was protected but the Cable itself..now it is.
Also burned out 1 TV had to have 3 Cable Line replaced cause they fried.

No, I worry about the paraffin (kerosene) running out and the system crashing - thinking of upgrading to mains gas though.

I dont leave mine 24/7. I turn it off when i go to school, because if my parents see it on they get pissed. I leave it on almost every night to mainly upload/seed stuff.

i turn it off when i'm going to be away from my house for 2+ days, but other than that, always.

once i had to travel for 15 days, didn't want to shut down PC, so made a huge fkin list of stuff that i would like to download and let the PC do the rest.

Left it runnin for 15 days...non-stop, no other shit runnin at the background....downloaded more than 450gigs in 15 days.....

since then my PC is barely off.... its now runnin over a month, i-e non-stop...

My bastard of a graphics card fan makes too much noise for me to sleep with the computer turned on.

Tried turning up all other fans in my case to their max speeds, and the level of noise hardly increased one iota.

I leave mine on but with the odd bad storm ,If I'm awake I'll get up and turn it of .Had a power surge hit me last year and fried my mobo .

But I set up all my maint. programs to run @ 2:00 am , like defrag , Giant , etc. Seems so much better just wake up grab a coffee I'm set to go . I don't believe the crap about it using that much electricity leaving it on all the time .

I think it's unwise to leave on 24/7. I believe hardware especially non-server hardware wears faster being left on. People say switching causes surges, the switches etc. etc. The lifecycle of parts justs lasts longer when not being used 24/7.
