What is dynamic routing? Gateway or router?

My router has options for dynamic routing and RIP1 and all of that ...
And it has a check box thing to set it to either be a router or gateway

Would any of this help with filesharing if I fooled with it?

You should only use the gateway setting if the addresses on YOUR network are public internet addresses.

If they are private addresses (which they will be unless you've paid for public addresses) you should use the router setting. The gateway option will prevent your system from working properly and will also expose your network to the internet.

You should probably leave the dynamic routing and RIP1 options at default unless specifically told to change them by your ISP.
