ok my windows xp pro defrag wont work anymore, does anyone know which files run the program so i can replace them. Dont wont to reload windows again, any help given i thank you for it.
sfc /scannow in the run box might do it. If it asks you to put in the cd, do it.

Yes, and also make sure that you have your windows XP cd in the drive (altho i think it asks for it if it needs it  ).

Why not use another defrag program? There are many out there that can be faster, and better at defragmenting your computer.

Does XP even attempt to analyze your partitions before presenting you the option to defrag?
Quite simply, XP will take no action unless it believes it needs to.
It sounds dumb, so my apologies... I am just emliminating all the possibilities before going to extremes. :)
