Hey Guys,

Just got my RAM from NewEgg after the first stick resulted in my PC not to boot, it would just make long beeps. Both sticks of RAM I received do not work. I am stuck with 512. Am I supposed to be doing something special? LIke reseting the CMOS or changing Something in the BIOS? My mobo is ABit NF7-S.

THanks.

Ah yes, I remember the topic, is it a dual channel kit?

Are you in DIMM slots 2 and 3?

Yes, I tried 3-2 and then 3-1.

Don't know anything about dual channel kits, but I was going to steal the RAM from my sis' PC to see if that works. If not, then I think my mobo might be bad.

What is the sequence of beeps?
Write them down in the format long-short-short-long-pause-repeat

These are POST beep codes, they actually tell you what the fault is.

Did you try the new RAM all by itself?

The beep codes are: LONG-LONG-LONG-LONG and then I stopped listening because the RAM was in the DIMM3, the all by itself, where it should work.

Can someone recommend me another brand or stick that would be compatible with my current 512? Or should I risk another RMA?

Would this Crucial http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146541 be compatible with the Abit NF7-S and my current RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145416?

Well at least the beep codes definitely confirme it to be a memory related problem.

I can't be bothered to find the original thread so I assume your system works with your existing ram on its own.

I notice that your existing ram is CL2, the "new" ram is CL3.

If you've set the system up with fixed ram timings rather than using SPD it could well explain the difference. If so, try changing to SPD and see what happens. And don't forget that ram timings for AMD boards have to be a little slacker than those quoted for Intel boards.

In any case, here's one which should be fully compatible

The RAM that does not work is also CL2. The link that you provided is both what I have now and what deos not work. I find it hard to believe they would ship two defective pieces of RAM.

Edit:
I changed it from Auto to SPD still no dice.

Cas Latency 3

From the link you provided, which is different from my link (which is the same as what you say is your current ram).

But if timing was on auto before it shouldn't make any difference. It really does sound like faulty ram.
