For an amateur production, you don't have to do every frame. There are other tricks as well.

As far as the movies, early on I.m sure there were individuals of a team assigned certain frame ranges. Assign enough people and it would get done roughly the same time in a short amount of time.

Now there is more powerful software where certain elements of a film can be assigned a value.
