Everytime I try to add a VCD into nero burning rom it just closes without any warnings but if I use nero smartstart it reads them but wants to re-encode them (fk that). I am using winavi to convert the files from avi to VCD and they play fine on the computer, can someone recommend an alternate burner?

it not the burning software its the converting software your using
get different encoder from download.com there one called tmp....something
also theres a software which converts files to vcd and burns them for you
how ever a lot of the burner use ASCII coding so it makes them less compatible on stand alone players
thats why nero is recomended it will work on all players.

You can burn avi to VCD with Nero without having to convert it first. I do it all the time.
I like to use Nero Vision Express. Open it, then select make CD then VideoCD
click on add video file, add the avi you want to burn, click on next. It will take you too a option to make the VCD the way you want it. click on next and then burn...I like vision express for VCD cause you can preview the movie while its burning.

What is the file extension of the files you are trying to burn?

I don't know winavi, does it create image files? If so, the VCD format is already created and you just need to burn the image.

I'd have thought that you had to have .mpg/MPEG1-files to make vcd's without re-encoding them in nero, but since it works for hippy-chick I don't know what's wrong for you

But just as an experiment like, try grabbing a file called vcd something and try that one.

I just downloaded one called "Global.Frequency.S01E00.SCREENER.VCD-Cheetah-TV.mpg" off the pirate bay and burned that one as a vcd without having to re-encode.

If that one, or another one that works for others doesn't work for you then nero is buggered, if it does work, then you need to convert the other files with tmpenc or something similar.

When you encode your movie to VCD with WinAvi
you can burn it with that program,

which inturns opens nero for you to burn said
VCD to disk.
