I used a program that would rip and encode it to avi with one click. I don't remmeber what it was. :(

auto gk does a really good job. but u need to rip the dvd 1st with dvd decryptor

the new divx create bundle does the same thing. it's even simpler

I think with WinAVI you can go straight from disc to avi.
