A repacked version of WinZip 9.0 SR-1

Filename: WinZip.exe (http://161.53.43.3/~dbukvic/astalavista)
Filesize: 1.92MB
Original Filesize: 3.88MB
Switch: None
* Original Icon maintained. http://img132.echo.cx/img132/2171/snap16jn.jpg

FAQ:

How to install? Just double click or execute via batch or wpi
Where will it install itself? It will be installed in %programfiles%\winzip.

What is %programfiles%? this is where you install your program files directory. It doesn't matter if it is in C, D, E, etc drive.

How do i test this?
Uninstall your Winzip
Reboot your computer
And launch the Winzip.exe
Check your start > all programs>

How do you register this silently?

Create a registry key. With this info below.
* run this registry key from cmdlines.txt
What is cmdlines.txt? pls go to http://unattended.msfn.org and do a search on $OEM$ Folders

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nico Mak Computing\WinZip\WinIni]

Goal:

* Create a 7zip Compressed Norton Internet Security Installer = 56MB
* Auto Register and Activate NIS2005. Auto 1 year subscription renewal.
* Slash unneeded files to further reduce the filesize of Norton Internet Security.
* Reduce the need to download 30mb liveupdates by slipstreaming updates before
compression. You will only need to download 7mb

Never activate your NIS2005 again. And the beauty of this method is that
the subscription automatically resets to 1 year each time you install NIS2005.exe

Activation

1. Install Norton Internet Security 2005 like you regularly do
2. Note the serial key that you used.
3. Activate your Norton Internet Security 2005
4. Reboot to Safe Mode

Go to "Path=C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC"
Look for a file "symlcrst.dll" <<--- Registration File Will only work for this particular hardware. Sorry no walk around to this protection method by symantec.

Winrar SFX the file:
Add this to the comment

;The comment below contains SFX script commands
Path=Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC
Silent=1
Overwrite=1

http://img30.echo.cx/img30/2133/snap25ik.jpg

http://img30.echo.cx/img30/2479/snap32kq.jpg

Registration Regkey

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\CCPD-LC\KStore\00000082\0000000f\0000001b]
"Key"="XXXX-MF6T-PQ4D-XXXX-VQJB-XXXX"

replace the "XXXX' with your own key.

Note this will only work with your particular PC.

But you can make multiple "symlcrst.dll and regkeys" and use wpi method to select
which symlcrst.dll and regkey you want to install. :)

How to strip down the filesize of NIS2005 from 205mb to about 53.6mb

Stripping

For Example if you have Norton Internet Security 2005
in folder NIS2005 the files inside should look like this.
http://img106.echo.cx/img106/6042/snap19pp.jpg

We need to delete one file and a folder.

The easiest way is to use the search function

Search and Delete

MSIE Folder
ADBERDR6.EXE File

From 205MB that should cut down the size to 147MB

Updating URLList or Download Here (http://rapidshare.de/files/2504719/URLLIST.EXE.html)

1. Download and Install all the updates for NIS2005.
2. Reboot.
3. go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton Internet Security.
4. You will find your updated UrlList (file)
5. Search your NIS2005 (source file) Folder for URLLIST.exe
6. Right Click on it. and Open it with Winrar
7. Drag the Urllist from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton Internet Security and paste it into the UrlList.exe, [that you opened with winrar].
8. The urllist.exe will now be updated as of today.

Question: why are we doing this?
Answer: so when you install NIS2005 you wont need to download most of the hotfixes and patches. It is like slipstreaming.
If you dont update your UrlList.exe your looking at 30mb + download.
If we update the urllist.exe when it is time to do a liveupdate, u will be downloading
about 7mb

7zip compression

1. Highlight and select all the files in NIS2005 Directory & Select Archive

http://img120.echo.cx/img120/5373/snap26mn.jpg

2. Edit the filename to NIS2005.7z if needed
3. Set compression to Ultra

http://img120.echo.cx/img120/7444/snap32ut.jpg

4. The result will be a file called NIS2005.7z

http://img120.echo.cx/img120/3852/snap49rj.jpg

5. Download NIS2005_Tools.exe (http://161.53.43.3/~dbukvic/astalavista/)
6. Extract the files from NIS2005_tools.rar to the same folder as NIS2005.7z.
7. Click on Run_Me.exe
8. A file will be created called NIS2005.exe <--- Your new 53.6 MB installer.

* pls dont ask about virus definitions. Since you will need to constantly update this
file it is futile to integrate it.

Good luck from Astalavista.

Objectives: To further reduce the size of our Office2003 installer to around 33MB. In Addition to make the installer totally silent with no Gui showing.
Time to accomplish Task: 15~20 mins.

Prerequisites: You must read these articles first!
SlipStreaming 2003 (http://unattended.msfn.org/intermediate/apps/office/office2003_slipstreaming.htm)
Office 2003 guide (http://unattended.msfn.org/intermediate/apps/office/office2003_advanced.htm)
Office Shrink Method by BuckEye (http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=16709&view=findpost&p=114743)

Do not use my method until you have fully tested your office shrunk (office 2003).
Once you have tested it on Virtual PC or real world test then you can use
my method described below. Office Shrink is not perfect. You have to follow
the steps.

Notes: If your planning to install NetFrameWork 1.1 on your system. Pls make sure that you install NetFrameWork prior to doing your office shrink by BuckEye.
Reasons: The way office shrink works is to save only the files you need to install your particular Office package. It is very very picky about how it is installed and such. So pls take note.
Here is an example of a problem that was encountered in my last guide. People did a clean install of xp either real or virtual. Ran the office Shrink program by buckeye. Created their custom installer. But when they tried to install NetFrameWork 1.1 before their Office Shrunk Installer it would fail. Solution was to install the Office Shrunk Installer prior to Installing Netframework 1.1.
In conclusion, if your planning to use Netframework pls install it first before running office Shrink by Buckeye. Then when you use RunonceEX or WPI you can keep the order of NetFramework 1.1 then Office 2003. :)

Instructions:

Tools you will need.
- 7zip 2.0 (http://www.7-zip.org/)
- SetupMST.exe (http://161.53.43.3/~dbukvic/astalavista/) <- NEW updated
- Office_Tools.rar (http://161.53.43.3/~dbukvic/astalavista/) <- NEW updated

1. Drop SetupMST.exe into Office shrunk folder ( c:\office )
2. Highlight all the files in your office Shrunk folder. ( c:\office )
3. Select Add to Archive (7zip)
4. Rename Archive name to Office2003.7z if needed
5. Set Compression to Ultra
6. Extract the contents of Office_tools.rar (http://161.53.43.3/~dbukvic/astalavista) to the same folder as Office2003.7z
7. Run the Run_Me.exe
8. You will now find a file named "Office2003.exe" <--- NEW installer

The BIG deal is when you try to pass it along like its something you did.
When its not.
I have allready edited out the title and I took out some parts where he
blatantly said "I created..."

Im not against having guides, or even copying them over from other places
but the credit has to go to the folks who really is behind the project.

You think I went a tad over the line?
You can report this and complain to other Mods/Admins.

If he didn't create the guides he should not give the 'impression' that he had.

Perhaps a better title...would have been 'here are some great guides that I found and thought people would find helpful' type thing.

Either way it is the 'impression' of authorship that is the problem not the guides themselves.....

Lot of good info here, I'll have to BM this or maybe even print it out. Good bedtime reading material, haha! Puts me to sleep, but then I dream about slipstreaming an Office XP install HAHAHA (I'm gonna check out the thing. Is there a way to slipstream a Windows XP Install? You know, put the product ID key into it, pre-select what kind of networking protocols are to be installed, basically an un-attended install).

I have a proghram called Bart's Boot Image Extractor (http://www.nu2.nu/bbie/) that is alleged to be able to scrape the Boot sector right off of an XP CD but it does not seem to wanna work. Well, on Windows XP x64 Ed at least. Anyone know what software that can extract the boot sector from Windows x64? I'll go ask this also in the forum related to that scthuff.

Astalavista: You are a very good instruction-writer, I know, I have to do the same stuff for the clients I sell stuff to, selling them the tech they want is like selling monkeys rocket ships. But they insist on buying the stuff from me, so what can I do? I don't-a do-a no tech support. Well I do, but not after 30 days.

I wanna know more about this 7zip thing so I'll be printin this stuff up- Thanx.
