Um...like are you striving for an upgradable gaming machine or a ferocious spread sheet cruncher?
If you are leaning toward a gaming rig, I would highly recommend the DFI LanParty nf4 SLI DR motherboard with Patriot EP RAM.
If sheer functionality is what you're after, the Gigabyte GA SLI is much cheaper but very stable and feature rich.

No matter what combination you choose your power supply needs to be very high quality.
Figure $100 and up (American dollars) for this part alone.
The case is purely a personal decision...I like cases and don't mind spending to get them while others consider the case just a box to house stuff.

One benefit of the higher priced cases...they tend to be better designed for cooling and ofttimes are fully equipped with big, properly placed fans.
This will reduce your need for afterpurchase cooling upgrades/modifications.
Very good HSF for the K8s are available from $40 (like the AC Freezer64).
Your vid card's stock cooling might be fine, if not, aftermarket parts start at about $30.

Im planning on going to toronto for my parts. All these prices are from apluscomputers.ca

Oh and i want an upgradable gaming machine, with the main focus on upgradable. Im not buying top notch parts at first, but i want to be able to upgrade it in the future so it will be alot better.

I really dont care what the case looks like as long as works.

This adds up to be about 1100$, and the most i want to spend is 1500-1600$, so i have room for improvement.

reconsider the CD-rom for $30 thing. you can probably find a decent dvd-rom drive for that much.

a psu is very important to any rig. consider spending $70-100 CAD at least.

and if ur not uber-geeky about the looks, u don't have to spend a lot of $$ on the case.

Thanks accat, i can get a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz Socket 939 (Retail Box) for 330$ there. I think that would be a better deal.
