Pirated Live 8 DVDs on eBay, industry protests

Internet auction site eBay said on Tuesday it had begun removing illegal DVD copies of the Live 8 poverty awareness pop concerts from its Web site, after the record industry complained.

Some of the pirate recordings on the site early on Tuesday were on sale within 24 hours of Saturday's concerts ending, and have been attracting bids of up to 16.99 pounds ($31) each. One of them boasts footage from huge concerts in London's Hyde Park and Philadelphia.

Why was there no lawsuit? Any other site and they would have sued... Maybe its because they know ebay has money to actually fight them?

i think there's some weird rule that stops normal copyright laws applying on public performances. so bootlegged recordings of festivals and concerts are legit to distribute

i'm not sure though

In which case, someone should tell EMI...

Incidentally...

EMI has scored a coup over rival music companies by securing the DVD rights to this weekend’s Live 8 concerts after agreeing to pay several million pounds upfront to the event’s organisers, The Times has learnt.

wtf??
