One comes in mind right away,
Led Zeppelin has a song called Rock'n'Roll,
Van Halen does justice for it, on theyr gigs, can be found on a live cd too, and in a video,
truly amazing version, no "rape" like Britney Spears on that Joan Jett "I love rock'n'roll" thingie.
She maybe good looking and have some "moves" BUT, pritney just dont rock, simple as that.
I got a huge list here on other covers too as im working on the case, just
started a new band and we do only covers for now... :)
But i think i'll leave for this.

Guitar Slinger, I too play in a band and have a song list page(not updated recently though :( ), but if you wanna do covers it depends on what type of venue you are likely to play.
Adthomp, the interesting thing about your suggestion,Faith No More, which I think are an excelent band, is the fact that One of their most successful singles was actually a RAPP TRACK!!! :D :D :D
cheers,
Bass.

I quite like what Stevie Ray Vaughan or Monte Montgomery done with Little Wing.
Most metallica "Garage Inc" songs are good covers.
