The mobile phone thing doesn't really help people that much. I read another article and the person who's in charge claimed around 150 to 200.

As I understand, the keys use OLEDs(organic light emitting diode) to display images.

And, you will be able to put any image you want on them.

The inherit problem is that OLEDs of that size [and used in that manor] are relatively new.

Definitely don't want to be a first generation user.

Very cool though, I hope it starts a trend in keyboards.

Optimus keyboard already patented in the U.S.!

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000437052405/Having read the patent description I'd say that the patent holder has tried to be a little too clever. As someone on that site has said, the patented design specifically has statically identified CTRL, ALT and SHIFT keys. But the Optimus clearly does not, therefore the patent does not apply.

I don't see the big deal about this keyboard....? So you can program keys to have certain icons... I just don't get it. My cheap microsoft keyboard allows me to bind f1-f12 and my additional 19 buttons to run any application I want. I can't change the icons for them, but I don't really need to because I don't have problems remember what I've binded each key to... I think if you need icons to remember, you're not using it enough to really make a difference anyhow. How many people actually look down at their keyboards when they type now a days to where you'd actually need the custom icons? Somebody mentioned how great this would be for cs:s; you can set up scripts in cs:s to carry out any set of commands as far as buying helmet, armor, weapon, ammo, etc... I just don't understand the big deal about this keyboard. Please, if I'm missing something, explain... Thanks.

Play with this - http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/demo/

Hit caps, the Photoshop and Half-Life links, etc.

Not a necessity, but a cool peripheral, indeed.

lol, i give up. I guess it's the same reason I can't understand people wanting neon lights in their computers, flames on their cars or spinning wheels.

To each his own........

I'm about to drop another $300 tomorrow on a tattoo addition. Some think its pissing away my money, I see it as just something I want. ;)

I must agree, totally. The thing is over $1500 also.

For gaming, give me an 8 (or more) button mouse and a Wii-style nunchuka control for movement. I hate using keyboards for anything when gaming.
