How am I supposed to maintain a good share ratio if no one is downloading off me? I can't seed it forever, I turn my computer off at night. And even if I do seed it for a long time, my upload speed (which is without limit) is usually no more than 3kb/sec, simply because no one is downloading it.

My ratio is horrible, and I'm probibly going to get banned. No matter how long I seed it, the upload speed never picks up. What am I supposed to do? :(

at whatever torrent sites you use look for the new worst seeded files. fresh ones with one seed are often good because the busiest time for them is still to come and you'll probably have a 1:1 ratio even during DL because the whole swarm will be going roughly the same speed (whatever speed the seed can upload at)

this sometimes has the added advantage of discovering artists you've never heard of and wouldn't have DLed before :D

yeh, if you just want to get your ratio back jump on a new torrent and upload at full speed for a while until it's back to what you want it to be. larger files are better for getting ratio back up i have found.

and is it really necessary for you to turn your computer off at night ?

I keep mine running 24hrs a day unless the power goes off, or something I install needs a reboot ;)

@Rip The Jacker

You don't need to upload as much as you d/l on one torrent, just make up the balance on another torrent that has plenty of leeches on it.:)

Try different torrents.

It’s all about the seeds/leechers ..

If you are one of a hundred seeds, and there are only a couple leeches, you can’t expect to upload much to them couple of leechers on taht torrent.

Why don’t you try uploadind a DVD or something, maybe leave your pc running 24/7 if that is possible too.

mabey there is 1 or 2 leechers...

Also, a good way is to download several files and seed them, that way if one drops off for a while there is another one that can pick up the slot.

I also leave mine on 24/7 even if not actually downloading anything myself, it helps to keep the ratio up. :)

Likewise.

I've only got one BT upload atm (been using emule and all the other's have dropped off the trackers) and sometimes that drops to zero. At other times (like now) it really zips along, 30KB/s upload and only one connection. If this guy keeps going I could easily upload a gig to him tonight.

A lot of people have unlimited bandwidth overnight, so that's when they do their downloads. You could be missing out on the best upload times.

Also, if you use Azureus..you can set it to "Force Seed"...this will Force you to seed when file is completed & wont drop you off....also, Burst is a great program for Seeding too.

BitComet is clever, it switches to Seed mode automatically. Come to think of it, so does Azureus unless you specifically tell it not to.

I often find that while I'm downloading I don't get much upload, but as soon as it completes the upload rate goes maximum. Never could get good speeds either up or down with Azureus, but that's probably because I run Folding@Home 24/7 and there just isn't enough cpu time to service Azureus's excessive demands.

BTW Rip, don't want to upset you but that torrent is Nuked - bad Aspect Ratio.
Edit: too late, I see you've finished it now.

Actually the aspect ratio is just fine for me. I noticed it got nuked, and I don't know why, but this looks great. When watching it in ZoomPlayer, you can change the aspect ratio to Widescreen 16:9 and back. It makes a very little difference.

What are the numbers supposed to be for widescreen movies?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions... I guess I can start leaving my PC on at night... that sounds like the best solution. I'll try to start downloading torrents with more leechers now....

Just stay with it, alot of torrents have a longer life span than you think, if you keep it seeded more people will start to drop off, and more people will start to download... very rarely have i ever found a torrent where if i didn't stay on it long enough i wasn't able to seed it to over 1:1... definitely leave your computer on... windows is stable enough now where there really isn't any need to reboot it all the time... this system had been running for 42 days now... last time it was rebooted was simply for an software upgrade...

Wow... 42 days running. Doesn't that cost you more on your electricity bill?

I guess whats the only reason I shut down my PC at night....

I don't know what the figures for width x height should be, but the ratio of them should be about 2.3, not 1.7 as shown there. Pisexy and FileList both have the Proper version.

Apart from reboots for software upgrades, 2 of my systems have been running for about 6 months. Only one monitor though, and that shuts off after 5 minutes.

@zeus, the last torrent I had only got to 0.8 before it died - and that was on Pisexy. :P
Still, I've got another one that's currently at 5.8 and shows no sign of slowing down at the moment.

From what I see that torrent @ .8 is still going... your at .816 now... with 4 leechers still... :-P

and the other torrent has been active on the site for 1027 hours now, amazingly that is just about 43 days... and it still has active leechers... goes to show torrents can have a long life if you stick with them... :-)

I haven't seen where it costs that much extra to run a pc all the time RTJ,but if it worries you, set the power management to shut off the monitor after 1 hr idle or something

I'm not sure that is good advice...because that would make him known as an HNR.... Hit and Run. That's just as bad as a leecher because he is still abandoning a torrent where he could help others out....no matter the situation. In addition, TL the site that he is using...I think starts banning below .4 ratio...so better start crackin on a more popular torrent.

Nope, this is me:

Ratio: 0.028
Uploaded: 51.45 MB
Downloaded: 1.80 GB

:lookaroun

Damn private trackers don't have enough leechers, whenever I'm downloading from www.torrentspy.com my ratio is .8 to 1.5 usually...

EDIT: Only the newer torrents have more leechers than seeders, but those I can't download anyway because of my ratio! Currently I have to wait 40 hours before being able to download the newer torrents. By then they'll have more seeders than leechers. :(

Try uploading something new, as in make a torrent, U/L it to the tracker site, seed. By the look of your numbers, though, doesn't look like you've been at that site very long. I don't know their particular rules but some sites won't let you U/L until you've D/L a certain amount and have a good ratio.
Then the only thing you can do is exercise restraint on downloading stuff you want and instead, look for ones with good leecher to seeder ratios & hop on those until you can get your ratio under control.

BTW, I trust you are connectable with no firewall/port forwarding issues...

Yeah I'm pretty new to TL.

Regular members aren't allowed to upload torrents at TorrentLeech. From FAQ: "Only specially authorized users (Uploaders) have permission to upload torrents." And to be an Uploader, you have to have at least 10MBit upload bandwith. That I don't have. :(

I'm also fully connectable yeah.

Bah...you just started. Just always leave that first torrent open and eventually you'll catch up...just don't download anything new for awhile. I just recently started a couple new sites...and I'm already in the black all the way around.... Just moderation is all that is necessary.

i usually dl something that is repeatedly being snatched (it's usually something i don't necessarily want) then upload it until the demand is over

I think I would agree with everyone's suggestion that you just diversify your collection and you are bound to get something that everyone wants! or download something just seeded..

Download and seed a really active torrent.
If you want to be cheap seed porn. Usually they don't lose interest that fast, especially on torrentbytes.
