So, how is Seattle this time of year, then, IKE?

One has to wonder what was wrong about just calling it Longhorn, 'cos I can't say that Vista is much of an improvement.

Longhorn is a great name, Vista is an awful one.
Blackcomb was also a really good name, but they dropped that as well.

Why Vista? Since Whistler became Windows XP, Longhorn should be Windows XD

Augh, why cant microsoft keep it simple and make it Windows 2006?

because thats boring and unoriginal and would conflict with MS's server products aka W2K and W2K3

As seen it on slashdot:
Viruses
Instability
Spyware
Trojans
Adware

:P

Also:

By naming the next version of Windows "Vista," Microsoft may have stepped on the toes of another software company just down the road in Redmond.

That would be Vista, a business software and services company founded in 1999 by John Wall. He was not amused when Microsoft announced its choice yesterday, setting the stage for a massive rollout when its flagship operating system goes on sale in fall 2006...

From here. (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2002397450_microvista23.html)

teh funneh.

There was nothing wrong with Longhorn, but I guess it didn't sound crappy enough.

Seriously, I bet they've got someone over there who thinks he's/she's a marketing genious, 'cos they can come up with those excellent names.

What they don't get is that people are going to buy it whatever it's called, 'cos it's pretty much the only option for a lot of people. It had been cool if they'd called it something good, tho'.

personaly i dont think its bad name and dont even care as far as MS provides a good OS.

If they called it Windows Garbage, would people still buy it? Yep, they'd buy it,

Vista means view ,I believe in a few different languages .

There's another name I'm not that fond of, but in all fairness, that's the work of one bloke, well geek really, and he did it for free, and many distros usually have ok-ish names.

One would have thought that Microsoft's teams of developers and PR-people would have been able to make up something somewhat better than the sometimes-not-even-getting-paid type of person that does the open source thing, anyhow.

Longhorn was a good name, dunno' why they had to change it, anymore than why I get why they went and changed "whistler". If it had been called something that "Vista" was a step up from I'd have gotten it.
