Windows Server 2003. It's mostly XP but for people running Servers. After that is Codenamed Longhorn, which won't come out until 2005. After that is Codenamed Blackcomb. Not much is known about that since no builds have been leaked yet. All screenshots of Blackcomb are FAKE, so flame them for posting those.

PS. You forgot Windows NT on your list.

Longhorn & Blackcomb is the smae thing........it was origanally going to be called Blackcomb but was changed to Longhorn.

No, they are both completely different. Blackcomb is .NET 6.0 (I think), and Longhorn is going to be the successor of XP.

my wrong..........found some answers.......

Longhorn Info (http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/longhorn.asp) The existence of Longhorn was first revealed by Windows product manager Tom Laemmel, who I met July 17, 2001 during an XP press tour. Laemmel spilled the beans to eWeek a few days later, and Microsoft executive vice president Jim Allchin verified that a new interim release, Longhorn, would ship before Blackcomb. Since then, information about Longhorn has appeared in Microsoft and Department of Justice (DOJ) legal filings related to the Microsoft antitrust case. It's real, and now it's common knowledge. In late 2002, however, Microsoft decided to make Longhorn a desktop-only release, so Blackcomb will be the next Windows Server upgrade. Details on Blackcomb, obviously, are sketchy at this point. As the company told me recently, "Another major release of Windows Server will follow Windows Server 2003; it is code named Blackcomb. We do not have a firm release date at this time, and Microsoft will determine a release timeframe based on what customers tell us they require."

Longhorn Info (http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/longhorn.asp)What's up with the name Longhorn?
A: As I first revealed, the Longhorn name wasn't chosen randomly. Remember that Windows XP was code-named Whistler and the next version of Windows, at the time, was code-named Blackcomb. Both of these names come from ski areas in British Columbia, close to Microsoft's headquarters. At the foot of Whistler Mountain, there is a saloon named Longhorn that serves the local skiing population. So if you're ever in the area and want to take in some local color, Longhorn is a nice stop… after you're done with Whistler.

WHAT NONSENSE?

the question obviously was asking "what's the next windows desktop version"? which is longhorn.

if the original question had been about server versions, it would have asked what the next server will be after IIS 5.

blackcomb WAS also a codename used with XP. a friend of mine had a beta of it on his comp b4 xp came out... it was quite glitchy lol

edit: my mistake... it was windows whistler as the codename! i got confused cuz theres a kick ass ski resort in vancover called whistler/blackcomb!

I have Longhorn build 4008 on my computer right now :) Have had it for about a week - it hasn't crashed once.(though I did need to restart my computer occasionally when it glitched, bet never a full out crash)
If anyone wants to try it out, I could prolly find the ftp site I got it off of. People with slower computers might want to steer away though, I had to do major tweaking to get it running fast, and I have a 2.6 p4. Let me know if I should look : )

There is another version of windows before 1.0 i forget the name.

But yeah im running longhorn right now also, build 4800. it's pretty cool. But itykii, im running it on a 300mhz pentium 2 cpu with 256 mbs ram. i see some slow downs and i tweaked the services and video display, but its nothing major. i love the new my computer look. i never used that arrow thingy on the taskbar that brings up the slideshow and stuff. lol its kinda cool but it seems useless.

love how they added the 'music library' but i dont understand how to get music files into that damn thing yet. lol.

its got ways to go, right now it seems almost like a service pack to xp or something lol.

btw Its very easy to obtain a copy of longhorn.
