Ive used eMule for a long time now and when I tried eDonkey for some reason I just didnt like it as much.
Ive also added a poll to this as this question pops up from time to time...

Overnet is a edonkeynetwork built in the Edonkey client alone. It used to be a stand alone application but is now built in the Edonkey 2000 client. Regular ed2k is serverbased whilst Overnet is a distributed searchable serverless network but it is still ed2k!.

If you find eMule to be slow compared to other ed2k clients, give MorphXT a try.
If you don't see an improvement, have a read through this nice MorphXT Wiki (http://www.filesharingweb.de/mediaWiki/index.php/English:MorphXT_FAQ).
Once you get all the settings sorted out properly, it's a great client.

I always got faster downloads with eMule because of KAD was connected, but I have found that I even get faster speeds with Shareaza if it has G2 or Gnutella sources for the eDonkey download. There can be a long wait sometime for just eDonky sources, but with G2 and Gnutella sources the files usually download much quicker.

Edonkey is faster for downloads, because of it's hoard implementation. It's weakness is in sharing files that it isn't actively downloading, as the hoard takes priority.

With the Overnet part of Edonkey and the abundance of ed2k links throughout different forums, it's often unnecessary to even connect to servers.

I use both emule and edonkey2000. edonkey will use the same download files as emule, so I'll normally start with emule. If the download is going slowing, I'll try edonkey to see if it increases speed. I like emule better for searches - it appears to give more results.

if you look at your stats you will see that 95%+ clients that connected to you are emule or emule mods.
of course if you want other networks than use other progies, as emule is only for kad and donkey networks

I didnt know they were still alive...I quit using Emule cause of it sucking soo much of my bw down the drain.Edonkey I stopped using in say July '06 or so cause every 10 seconds a dialog would pop up saying they would file a lawsuit if I kept using.Nothing special on those networks...besides torrents are wayy fassster.But if I had to use one Id bite the bullet and use Emule.

Emule has been derived from edonkey, but look today, the number of ppl using emule are far-far more than those using Edonkey, hence the automatic winner is... Apart from this, look at the number of new versions of Emule that is released every year and you'll understand that lots of people are helping this programme to become better and better.. that is not the case with Edonkey :)
