help: XP file search broken

Im faced with a problem when using the XP file search
every time I go to search for files I get this screen

yep, the search bar is fuked

any body else had this?
also have you managed to solve it 'without' formatting or windows reinstall?

If you really don't want to format... Install Google Desktop... it's pretty sweet!
