Me and my friends have been arguing about the Ps3 vs. the xbox360.

It's boiled down to these arguments.

-Xbox uses the hd-dvd therefore it is limited to double layer dvd (9gb)
and Ps3 can do 50 with blue ray double layer.

-This makes us say that xbox will suck at having long high quality FMV's in their games while Ps3 will have long high quality fmvs since they can afford the space.

*-then I got to thinking. FFVIII and FFVIX. Both games are on CD media, and the entire game is about 3.2 GB. What sony did was spread the game across 4 cds to make up for the space problem.

But I havn't seen that recently. Do you think, if a game is on both the 360 and PS3, that they might span it across multiple dvd's for the 360 to make up for the smaller space and not sacrafice any data/movies/sidequest/anything else?

How many games do you think will utilize that much space?

Final Fantasy was one already. How many more multi-disc games have there been for consoles?

One thing MS did that was smart expense wise was utilize an existing technology that doesn't cost shit. Rumor has it that they will only lose $75 per console sold.
However, if Blu-Ray takes off for movies then Sony's console will be a boon just due to the fact now a person can get a HD movie player and console on the cheap.

The weird thing is that when reading the specs for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, they are both supposed to be recordable at launch. There was supoosed to be no such thing as HD-DVD+R or Blu-Ray+R or anything of the sort.

It's supposed to like VHS but in disc form.

Xbox 1 is still the bomb, no need to go out and rush and buy the next generation systems, there argument solve.

Well, all the games that already have hit the dvd-9 max are just that, filled with the max amount of data a dvd-9 can handle.

So does that mean that the have to stop at a GT4 style game where all the artistic visuals take up that space that they can't go further (since they can't exceed dvd-9) and do more hd hi-def or pre-rendered cut scenes?

(just a question, not intended to flame or anything)

creator of dead or alive talked about this, he says thats one thing he and a few other japanese developers dont exactly like about the 360, is that lots of space is used for FMVs, and its space the 360 doesnt have, or is ok, but not satisfactory.... :|

Ah. I always wondered if that was ever publicly addressed.

unless a game has ALOT of cinematics there would be no need for all that space. if you wanna watch a movie, you'll buy a dvd, if you wanna play a game, you'll want to actually play, instead of hitting a, x, or y 100 times trying to advance to your next section. games come down to performance, that's where the arguments will ly. no matter how much stuff you cram onto a cd/dvd, if it isnt quality, all youre doing is wasting space. besides a dvd can hold 2hr movies, 3 hour movies right? what game would have that much cinematic time??? aside from final fantasy, i mean come on, ff7 case in point :P.
