The thing with these babies is that they are eating, drinking, shitting, peeing, crying and screaming machines. And they do it for about 80 years.

Question - i went on my first supermarket buy baby stuff experience and bought pampers wet wipes - wet cloth type thing for easy cleaning - my wife said they can harm his genitals and skin due to chemicals etc is this true?

Any skin cleaner has to be safe but as a baby is far more sensitive than an adult the baby wet wipes should be the only ones you use, preferably the unscented ones. Even with this keep an eye out for any reactions. Make sure the baby is dry before putting the fresh diaper on and if you use powder be very careful that no dust goes in the baby's face...inhalation can cause severe lung problems.
Diaper creams with a petroleum jelly base applied liberally are a good way to form a barrier between body waste and the baby if he is prone to diaper rash.

You may notice that the poo doesn't have much of an odour if any.... trust me this will change all of a sudden. One day you will find tears in your eyes and a gag reflex in your throat..... this change happens overnight for some strange reason....so if you are planning to take turns suggest you do it for the first 4 months then let her have the next 4...... use your 4 months off to practice holding your breath for at least 5 mins. or build a changing device along the lines of those labs that deal with viruses

smell of popo is sweet...
baby needs love, warmth, some good chili con carne (aka food)
I think it's wise to stay away from chili con carne for a while. If not the smell won't stay sweet. :pinch:

Zed,you are now truly 100%. I believe that you will be a wonderful father...but remember you have an awsome responsibility at hand.

I have three children. Paige,Corey and Kylee (aged 12,10,8) I have tried to show them that love, patience, and kindness count the most in life. If you do the same...you can't go wrong.

Here is one of my favorite poems about the birth of a child. My gift to you
and your family.

On the Birth of a Child

LO, to the battle-ground of Life,
Child, you have come, like a conquering shout,
Out of a struggle—into strife;
Out of a darkness—into doubt.

Girt with the fragile armor of youth,
Child, you must ride into endless wars,
With the sword of protest, the buckler of truth,
And a banner of love to sweep the stars.

About you the world's despair will surge;
Into defeat you must plunge and grope.
Be to the faltering an urge;
Be to the hopeless years a hope!

Be to the darkened world a flame;
Be to its unconcern a blow—
For out of its pain and tumult you came,
And into its tumult and pain you go.

Peace to Zed and His family bd

That is a wonderful post, zed. Thanks for sharing.

It brought some tears to my eyes - because of the memories. I feel like a bit of a wimp now because others here noticed and I had to make up some lame excuse, but that's okay.

Your baby is beautiful.

Congratulations and I hope you have a particularly blissful family life.

I use to enjoy bath time with daddy ,all my troubles from work and bills seem to melt away when I got home . The wife would run a bath , start dinner and hear us giggling.Then one day to my surprise after pulling the drain plug, the water stayed .To my dismay the little bugger pinched a loaf and it was in the drain. :sick: Bath time was never the same . :D Nothing better than hearing Daddy's home tho, when 50% is a little older. :)

@100% Hey oh noes It just dawned on me , tell me your not going to call him 50 cent ! :lol:

Questions
1.We haven't bathed him yet - how often should this happen for a new born? we wash him with a cloth presently.
2.Any tips on avoiding nipple pain? The only one we've heard is that the baby should take the whole nipple + breast - not just nipple.
3.How did you experience the mothers relation between you and her? - it seems everything is in awe of the baby. As a man you dont have so much function other than practice househould things and washing baby1. Once a day at least, more if he gets all mucky with sick and poo.
2. The nipple toughens up after a while. Prolly best to get him on teh bottle before that (speaking as a man who doesn't really like tough nipples :unsure: ) - you can get a pump thing to extract breast milk if you're worried about nutrients and anti-bodies.
3. I felt particularly useless. Still do, sometimes.

Only what I did. I can't say if it's definitely the right thing to do or not but the baby survived :01:

I only have 1 piece of advice, enjoy things and don't wish for the next part. Next week he will be six months old, the week after that he will be walking. In about two months he starts school.

Believe me, you are just about to find out just how much tempest can fugit.
