• Rapidshare Gets Unlimited - Removes All Restrictions For Everybody

After having there share of copyright woes, action against downloaders, imposing account limits and loosing users, Rapidshare is doing another effort to win back its lost audience by announcing that they have removed all restrictions which applied to its subscribers until now. The change also affects unregistered users, so basically there is no upload & download limit on Rapidshare, nor is the storage space and upload file size restricted.

Personally, I believe this change is not enough to catch up with some much better and cheaper services such as Zevera, which is a multi-host downloading service where you can benefit from multi-service premium downloads with just one account. A single account with all premium access to anything you want from any known FileHoster such as Rapidshare, Hotfile, Megaupload, Mediafire, Depositfiles, Netload, Filesonic, Fileserve etc. is now the choice of smart users.

The email announcement to registered users reads :
    Hello XXXXXXX,
As a pioneer in One Click File Hosting, RapidShare has often ventured into unknown territory, to find the best product for its customers. Now it's time to properly clean up the inventor's workshop, because everything that just sucks finally has to go. Immediately and permanently, RapidPro price include all services indefinitely. This means:

    More storage space

As of now, automatic file deletion will no longer exist. With RapidPro, your files are saved until you delete them yourself!
    More Traffic
From now on, it is absolutely unlimited. TrafficShare included. It’s that easy!
    More speed
We have polished up our software! Uploads, as well as downloads, have been successfully carried out at 500 MBit/s per stream!
    More safety
Politics call for the complete monitoring of all internet users. We protect you with automatic SSL-encryption.
Have fun with the new RapidShare: Finally, everything is easy again!

I'm with Eyecandy, if you wanted the better service you had to pay and if you're still paying then the extra service is not work it. I guess it makes no odds if you can quickly cancel then you haven't really lost anything.

guys just wait ... this is a promotion stunt. As soon as you come back to RapidShare and start uploading your shit to it, after a while they will say - oh from now on there is a small fee, and since you already have a bunch of shit on their servers you're somewhat stuck not wanting to move so you pay. Then they raise their price just like everyone else.

So this has nothing to do that Rapidshare are in the middle of a pretty expensive/serious law suit?

Only if you're looking at the bigger picture, say I paid to get premium access only for the unlimited speeds bit the day before they made this change, you'd be quite annoyed wouldn't you?

Never heard of Zevera. Anyone else use it? Looks like a decent way to download from these hosters. Although if they're download tool won't work on Linux through Wine, then I'll constantly have to use their website.

They had their chance and they blew it. RS was at one point holding 90% of the file hosting links available. They got greedy and they began to squeeze their paying customers and tinkling on the free downloaders with all their tricks to make you pay.

It would be a good thing if they went the way of the dinosaur. One, other hosting sites would think twice about screwing with their customer base as RS did without the risk of being abandoned the same as RS is now. Two, it takes away their chance to do it all over again which they certainly would. The owners of RS are greedy, slimy, corporate hogs who don't deserve our pity.

Now if all the rest of the file hosting sites would get rid of the darn unreadable captcha's, I'd be gratful.

Would you really signup to a service which has been notorious for crippling their customers for only speeds?

Premium users still get benefits (see below):

lulz. When they benefits to free users, newfags are liek "fuuuuuu, theyr screwing teh premium usrs!". When they make shit harder for free leechers, le boneheads are again liek "omfg fuuuuuuuuuuuuu rs!"

Here's news for you kids: The sole purpose for existence of any company is to generate as much revenue as possible to its owners.
