DICE: No 1080p for Battlefield 3 on Consoles

DICE staff have been answering a slew of questions from fans via Twitter over the weekend, with the latest bombshell being the fact that Battlefield 3 will not support 1080p, or even 1080i on consoles -- the maximum resolution the upcoming FPS will support on PS3 and Xbox 360 will be 720p.

DICE rendering architect Johan Andersson made this new revelation via his Twitter feed; he also had some words for the 'haters' who are offended that the PS3 version won't match the performance of the game running natively on a high-end PC:

haters gonna hate

Epic Games design director Cliff 'Cliffy B.' Bleszinski has also joined the discussion, after being asked by a slightly confused fan if he worked at DICE.

DICE staff appear to be giving the time of day to all comers, so if you have any pressing questions of your own, you may wish to message the likes of Johan Andersson, Alan Kertz (senior gameplay designer), and Christina Coffin (Frostbite engine coder).

I've read COD Black Ops is 1040x608 on the 360 and slightly less on the PS3 according to http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...ck-ops-faceoff Found that strange

PC !!!! , first its an FPS how to play FPS without a mouse and keybord lol , and PC is much more powerfull

Did this really surprise anyone? 1080p would be near impossible with this type of game, its not like DICE can code in some more ram etc... Also has anyone ever seen a "real" 1080p feature game on console? Most if not all feature games are just upscales. Funny how console fans rip on Wii fans because they're playing 480p when PS3/360 gamers are playing upscales . Games on Wii don't need >480p, the "cartoony" graphics are rendered perfectly.Why do you think they demo animations on TV's? Not because they're popular but because they look good at any resolution. Only a fool would demo an action movie on a TV they're trying to selleg. Animation film (Wii games) / Action film (Console games).
