• 'Anonymous' Releases IP Info for 190 Alleged Pedophiles

Anonymous' forceful closure of more than 40 child pornography sites was apparently only the beginning of the group's war against pedophile activity on the internet. The group has continued its action by releasing the internet addresses of 190 alleged pedophiles online, using information collected from the sites it had earlier shut down.

The information outs details for users from around the world, including the U.S., Japan and the U.K. According to a statement released alongside the IP addresses, the information released was collected in one 24-hour period using NSA-4011 standards under a closed distribution channel, and is a collection of IP addresses "accessing sites hosting child pornography on TOR darknet (sites not listed under the WWW)."

In addition, the group claims to have uncovered the identity of the operator of Freedom Hosting, the hosting service that it described as "the host of the largest collection of child pornography on the internet" as developer and privacy advocate Mike Perry.

Perry has denied any connection with Freedom Hosting, writing that he "seem[s] to be the target of a vigilante lynch mob (or a subset of one) who will not dispose themselves of the notion that I run a service called Freedom Hosting (despite having evidence in their possession to the contrary)."

It's unknown whether the release of IP addresses is just the first of many; Anonymous had claimed to have information for more than 1,500 users accessing child pornography on the Tor network when it announced "Operation Darknet" last week.

This is good. While there may be no criminal charges (this may put a spotlight on the Freedom Host owner, though) it is a solid tool that will strike fear into the "casual" uploader/downloader. The police are predictable, and discreet in their methods- Anonymous is anything but. I doubt there will be much credibility to those who cry, "Anonymous wrongly accused me of being a pedo"- any such claims will be about as believable (or less) than the "I was banned unfairly by [tracker X]. It's about time some light was shined into the darker recesses of online niches such as cp. As a parent of 20 month old twins, I say, "Thumbs up Anonymous!"

      You watch too much Dexter.
Fighting crime with crime only exacerbates Society's problems or do you honestly believe that a bunch of idiots that assume the guise of a graphic novel character know better than the collective Law enforcement agencies and judicial systems of the World?

Certain things operate the way that they do not to give you vicarious satisfaction but because very wise people over the course of centuries have determined that it's better than the alternative.
If the people who belong to Anonymous ever grow up they will realize that for themselves.

I remember having this conversation with a friend a few weeks back. I was more or less on the same page as you Idol. At this point it's just children with too much time on there hands that dole out this sort of vigilantism. As you said the judicial process is better than this "street (internet) justice" alternative....much like communism and democracy.

Probably because no one in Anonymous speaks Korean.

Why don't we have North Korean pirates? I'm sure they'd have some legitimately crazy shit to say.

Are you implying that Anonymous' actions will lead to more child pornographers?

And I'm sure the average person let alone the average pedophile has never heard of Anonymous.
Now let's bet a thousand dollars on who's right.

No unless it directly effects them the average person isn't interested enough in the idle pursuits of cyber-goons to care.

"interested in" and "knowing" are not the same, so if I was a betting man, chances are I'd be heading to the bank ;-)
I can't recall ever hearing anything on a judicial basis, anything close to what Anonymous is reporting. If I was a pedo and saw that flash across over the news, I'm sure it would make me uncomfortable.

When I don't care about something I don't pay any attention to it which strangely also greatly limits my knowledge about it.
Have I "heard" of Anonymous yes. Do I "know" them from a hole in the ground no.
