• 'Anonymous' Releases IP Info for 190 Alleged Pedophiles

Anonymous' forceful closure of more than 40 child pornography sites was apparently only the beginning of the group's war against pedophile activity on the internet. The group has continued its action by releasing the internet addresses of 190 alleged pedophiles online, using information collected from the sites it had earlier shut down.

The information outs details for users from around the world, including the U.S., Japan and the U.K. According to a statement released alongside the IP addresses, the information released was collected in one 24-hour period using NSA-4011 standards under a closed distribution channel, and is a collection of IP addresses "accessing sites hosting child pornography on TOR darknet (sites not listed under the WWW)."

In addition, the group claims to have uncovered the identity of the operator of Freedom Hosting, the hosting service that it described as "the host of the largest collection of child pornography on the internet" as developer and privacy advocate Mike Perry.

Perry has denied any connection with Freedom Hosting, writing that he "seem[s] to be the target of a vigilante lynch mob (or a subset of one) who will not dispose themselves of the notion that I run a service called Freedom Hosting (despite having evidence in their possession to the contrary)."

It's unknown whether the release of IP addresses is just the first of many; Anonymous had claimed to have information for more than 1,500 users accessing child pornography on the Tor network when it announced "Operation Darknet" last week.

Not true. Ever try to 69 in one of those kid-sized race car shaped beds? Ridiculously hard on the back...

I kind of hope the douche who tried to illegitimize my posts on the last thread was part of that list. Go Anon!. Finally the group is doing something that the general population sees as "good".

Why are anyone of you defending Anon's actions here?? This is a clear-cut case of supporting a random irresponsible hacking group for using the same techniques as the feds and anti-piracy groups. There is no proof that the IP owners are necessarily guilty of anything, but now they automatically are because of this list? Don't use the defense if you support it for other purposes, file-sharers... And the argument that one is worse than the other legitimizes the actions still makes you a hypocrite.

Certain things operate the way that they do not to give you vicarious satisfaction but because very wise people over the course of centuries have determined that it's better than the alternative.
If the people who belong to Anonymous ever grow up they will realize that for themselves.
I remember having this conversation with a friend a few weeks back. I was more or less on the same page as you Idol. At this point it's just children with too much time on there hands that dole out this sort of vigilantism. As you said the judicial process is better than this "street (internet) justice" alternative....much like communism and democracy.
i dont know if i agree. first of all, guy fawkes is not a graphic novel character. and i would most certainly say they do know better than the law enforcement and judicial systems, at least in respect to technology. do you really think some 70 year old judge, a street cop, lawyers, or a jury of average citizens knows anything about darknet? i cant count the number of court cases ive read dealing with computers or technology where it was painfully obvious that the prosecutor knew next to nothing about the technology involved in the case he was trying, much less trying to explain it to a judge and jury who can barely use their computers to email. personally, it is scary. and i wouldnt necessarily call it vigilantism in this case. they are exposing the activity, not acting as judge, jury, and executioner.

Whenever someone is found with child pornography, it makes the paper/news. Most of these stories involve someone discovering folders on someone's computer, or because there was another investigation underway.

Anonymous came across a hidden nest of pedophiles. It gathered their information, and made that public. Will anything come of this? Probably not, but on the same token the group of pedos are now scared, and must either quit their activities or find another "safe" place to regroup.

Shutting the site down is good. How can anyone say exposing a safe-haven for child pornography is bad?

That's exactly the point. Shutting the site down could have been accomplished other ways as Anon has previously proven. What if you were on the list because someone tapped your wi-fi or anonymously randomized their ip to match yours? Granted, most people probably don't have to the tools or wherewithall to do this and on the same level most people don't know how to secure their signal properly. The average user is one that has to call someone else whenever an error message pops up. This list will probably force at least one person to defend themselves in the public court that hasn't done anything illegal or immoral. Witchhunts come to mind...

I guess I should have known better than to expect any intelligent responses. I am not caught up in anything, just don't like the idea of losing the freedoms that My country has provided to me. This topic is especially sickening this week given the Penn State issues, where they did have all the proof so many years ago and nothing was done. I am simply not a troll who posts once and never comes back to defend my argument, but apparently I need to be. You people must be the ones who are taking this personally by defending Anon. So, to resort to your level of debate, you're a bunch of sickened hypocrites who probably have lesser than average sized penises - na na na na na!!

So, aren''t you suggesting that an Anon-style group who would have brought this sort of thing to public attention in a timely manner would be a good thing.

      @macky: *High Five!*

You just can't trust groups of men, and there's plenty of anecdotes to go around.
