In most cases, when you are trying to download an aged torrent, you will find most transfers will stop due to many reasons including the swarm having no seeds, not enough peers available to cover the full release and the tracking going down. However there is a site which may prove pivotal in completing your full download and that is btReAnnouncer.

You’ll see many comments on BitTorrent sites which are pleading for seeds. You will also find as the torrents get older the 100% of seeds won’t be available anymore meaning the user will be stuck with the same amount completed. Unless a new seed appears with the remaining download, the user will be left without a complete file! ...

Anti-piracy groups and malware spreaders have been seeding fake files on BitTorrent for a long time now. They use a mix of open and public BitTorrent trackers and some also decide to set up their own trackers. Here we’ll be looking at the easiest way to find out more information about them.

As you may have been aware we’ve covered a few pieces on how malware and fake files are spread through torrent. We have showed how they get users to install programs such as DomPlayer.

After receiving an email yesterday from a user of ours who pointed out a problem with a torrent for the “Wolfman DVD rip” we decided to check it out and dig a little deeper into this obvious fake torrent. When looking at the file we discovered it was tracked using many trackers but one caught our attention straight away. ...

In Europe, the Federation Against Copyright Theft is fast becoming the main agency in fighting piracy in light of another Torrent site being shut down.

The agency that is more commonly known by its abbreviation FACT, has issued warnings and threats to a number of sites in the recent months. Even though the agency is based in the UK there is no geographical boundary for them with many reports of warnings being issued to sites all around the world. In the last week alone the Hollywood backed group shut down another site.

It is common knowledge that torrents are used for downloading pirate movies, music, games and much more. Despite this BitTorrent wants to make the world aware that they are not involved in any of the above.

Their vice president Matt Mason wrote a blog post last week stating that their open-source, peer to peer technology is used to share content, but they do not endorse any form of piracy whatsoever.

"We don't host infringing content. We don't point to it. It's literally impossible to 'illegally download something on BitTorrent,'" Mason wrote. "To pirate stuff, you need more than a protocol. You need search, a pirate content site, and a content manager. We offer none of those things. If you're using BitTorrent for piracy, you're doing it wrong." ...

In light of new research carried out by a UK research team it is believed that people using BitTorrent to download music or films is likely to be monitored.

The research team from the University of Birmingham claims that within 3 hours of a user downloading a media file it will be logged by a monitoring firm. When the team was asked about the level of monitoring they all unanimously expressed their “surprise”. The information monitored could be used by copyright holders to bring to an end the high levels of illegal download. The team of computer scientists carried out the research over a three year period by developing software which impersonated a BitTorrent file-sharing client and then logged all the connections made to it. ...
