How do I shrink an avi (movie) to fit onto one DVD?

Hi well Im new to this so here goes
I have downloaded a movie which I would like to have on DVD, how can I shrink it to fit onto 1 DVD. Any help would be appreciated. Tar:ermm:

Shrink? an .avi file is mostly 700 or 1400 MB. a DVD is 4.4 GB....

I agree with IKE, avi files generally never exceed 1.4GB. Though my assumption is that you are trying to encode a DVD from it's original format to avi and burn it to a DVD?

DVD to AVI = AutoGK

DVD to DVD = DVDShrink (Direct Download link)

:no2: Actually, I am always working with AVI files that are over 8-10gb in size. I'm a videographer though, so I have over 500GB of hardrive space to compensate for my uncompressed AVIs. It's funny though how most of those 8-10gb videos only take up 10-15% of a DVD when I convert them to .mpeg2 . DVD Compression technology is even better for feature films, because the producers can pay a professional company to easily fit a 3-hour movie onto one disk. :naughty:
The only difference is that they all use those 7+gb disks, while most of use still burn to 4.7gb :pinch:

try a prog called dvd2svcd which will encode avi 2 dvd but you need to get cce. the forums at www.doom9.org will help you.

Use Virtual Dub this will let you compress the avi file but will take a while.

I thnik the the thread poster should explain the problem with more detail. rly. I dont understand whats the problem.

dl Nero Vision Express, with a codec. Then convert the AVI and burn it onto a dvd-r.
