My identity has been compromised!
How fucked up is this,
Last night I watched the film Firewall, Starring Harrison Ford.
in the beginning of the film his identity had been compromised, and a bill had been racked up for online gambling.
This morning I logged in to my lloydstsb banking and noticed that transactions have been made on my credit card, almost £1000 to a online casino,, talk about jaw drop........................................................
Just got off the phone to lloydstsb fraud dept, just hope this sorts out, it's a first for me, last time I used my card was on ebay on the 10th.
can't give a lot of detail as I need the refund, big time
Re: My identity has been compromised!
I would have thought someone as internet savvy as yourself would have had safeguards against this sort of thing, let us know if you get your dosh back.
(Did you win owt at the casino)
Re: My identity has been compromised!
One would assume they will ask you to prove that you did not make the transactions. Given that they were presumably made online it is difficult to see how you will do this. It's what is known as a "customer not present" transaction and would normally require the person using the card to quote the security number on the back of the card. Thus confirming that they were the card holder.
Good luck in getting the money back, however under the circumstances I think it's going to be difficult. Their attitude may well be that anyone could lose a grand at an online casino and then phone to say it was fraudulent activity. Particularly as the card was not reported lost or stolen.
Incidentally I think I would check my system for a keylogger or other trojan which may have supplied your details to a fraudster. I would also consider cancelling any other cards which I have used online, as they may have those details as well.
Good luck

Sainsburys bank were very good whne a similar thing happened to me. My card statement showed some purchases that I hadn't made, and they agreed to refund the money, because the transactions "didn't conform to my usual spending pattern"
They were really good about it. Refunded the money and issued me with new cards etc.
My fraud didn't happen online though, but in Essex, where I haven't been. They reckon that someone must have skimmed and then duplicated my card and forged my signature when I wasn't looking :(
Re: My identity has been compromised!
you need a Phoenix firewall, not even Chloe O'Brian could bypass a Phoenix firewall.

My Grandma's bank is like that, only she lives in America and we all know they're twats. :P :P
She came over to England for a trip one year, and the bank called her saying
'We have reason to believe someone has stolen your card.'
'Why?'
'Because there have been odd purchases on your account, and they're even in another country.'
'Maybe that's because I'M in that other country.'
'Oh.'
The dumbasses didn't even look at the PLANE TICKET PURCHASE.

Bah, I bet she just made that up so she didn't have to bother and try. I always make up shit like that when I don't want to fix some noob's computer.
"Sorry, mum but your machine probably has that new SoupRades2006 virus you'll have to get it fixed at the shop."
