Does Vista really need 15GB of disk space?
Last week, Microsoft announced the immediate availability of the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor Beta, which it bills as “a small beta application that you can run on your current Windows XP-based computer to find out if it's ready for an upgrade to Windows Vista.” (This image gallery shows the Upgrade Advisor in action.)
I’ve run the Upgrade Advisor on several computers in my office. The one surprising result is the seemingly excessive disk space requirement for Windows Vista. On a relatively new Acer Tablet PC that otherwise meets all the Vista specs, I received this warning:

Re: Does Vista really need 15GB of disk space?
pfft they better give me a free hard drive to install this shit.
Re: Does Vista really need 15GB of disk space?
Theres nothing in the OS that should make it be that big. XP and Vista are the same so they should be the same size.
Re: Does Vista really need 15GB of disk space?
installed it on my pc to try it out,15.2gig of space was used on a fresh install,WTF! is taking up all that room

Where'd you get that info?
First difference is that one's install disc is the size of a dvd-r and the other is the size of a cd.

True, but most of the data on the Vista DVD is drivers. I know XP has very little drivers due to the fact of very limited space on the disk (700 megs). Now that Vista is on a DVD, theres plenty of room for shit loads of drivers.
As for the huge harddrive space requirement, its beta so theres probably lots of files that can be deleted (debug files etc) that havnt been fully cleaned up by the installer. Im hoping MS will slim it down when it becomes final.
Re: Does Vista really need 15GB of disk space?
Well when it comes final, i will make my own Lite version without almost all of that drivers :P
I just hope it won't be 15GB of hdd space or else i will get my Raptor 36GB half full...
Re: Does Vista really need 15GB of disk space?
When it will be officially released in stores?
