Duals on ATI

Hey,

My roommate has a ATI 9600 pro agp, he has 2 LCD's with a DVI to VGA adapter. All drivers are up to date. When I go though the Catalyst 6.8 guide it reconizes the two monitors and asks if i want a clone, strech ect.. however it won't display on the second monitor, i can drag windows over but the monitor is in standby mode, if i swich the two monitors, the both work fine alone. XP knows the montor is there, it just doesn't give it display. I have dual monitors with an Nvidia card, is there anything i could be missing on the ATI sid of things?
