Man...that's years of stories you need to catch up on if you want to know what happened, everything from 'heroes reborn' to 'House of M' and the stuff that spawned.
I'd recommend you try and get a hold of as much of the issues in between as possible, legally or illegally, and then look the rest up on one site or another that deals with character bios and stuff. Way better than me wracking my memory of what comics I've read, trying not to forget something important :P
One word: crap.
Use the money to buy the books being put out by Dynamite Entertainment instead.

Oh, The New Warriors messed up, and this bloke Nitro blew up a school, so now the government has decided all the super-people must be registered, secret identities and all.
The ones who agree with that are hunting the ones who aren't.
