Which is better? Protowall or Peerguardian?
i've been using protowall for a long time now. i remember i first started with peerguardian, then found protowall to block @ driver level, and switched, and stayed with it. which is better? peerguardian has a new version now that i hear is pretty good...
Re: Which is better? Protowall or Peerguardian?
Yes, get PG. It is much faster and easier to use. You can also disable HTTP Filtering in case you want to surf worry free while in Protowall, you would have to stop filtering completely

does pg block @ a driver level?
Re: Which is better? Protowall or Peerguardian?
if you go to www.bluetack.co.uk . I think thats the site you will see protowall or blocklist manager and they have a larger group of blocked ip's is that better? I don't know but I use them both. better safe than sorry!

however, if a "bad guy" wanted to connect to you on port 80 or 443 at that time, they could. however, if you're using bittorrent and azureus as your client, you can configure it to block connections from those ports.

no need to use both programs. the pg2 blocklists are just mirrored off the bluetack lists anyway. you can setup the individual lists in the list manager of peerguardian. here's a description of the lists:

it works at the software level.
Re: Which is better? Protowall or Peerguardian?
so pg is still software level?
so protowall is still better then right?

Just go with whatever you trust.

it's all up to you. if you're happy using protowall and it works fine, I wouldn't switch it up. I used it for a couple of years, until I built a new pc, and it just wouldn't work right with this machine. I'm using pg2 now and haven't had any problems. they both do the same job, just different way of going about it.
you can also address the questions to the forums for each program, they usually don't take long to respond.
Re: Which is better? Protowall or Peerguardian?
I used peerguardian2, but i found it was slowing down my system. I like Protowall better, and it sounds like blocking at the driver level probably works better.
