A Newby with a speed problem

Hi all, this is my first attempt to download using Newsleecher and at the moment I have been d/loading for 24 hours and only received 50% of the film. The speed I am getting on the trials addition is only 4.7 kp\s, how can I increase the d\load speed

close some programes/games that use your internet (bandwidth) erm and if it might help you can try a download/upload manager
