Problem installing games/direct x

i have installed the latest direct x9 and a dx diagnostic check acknowledges that it is installed, that it is the latest version, and there are no problems with it.

despite this i am unable to install games, i have tried 2 different games and have encountered the same problem both times. the games are TW07 and NFSC.

i only get as far as entering the serial code, when i hit enter, i get a message saying that the game can not be installed because the latest version of direct x is not installed, and tells me to go to microsoft page to download latest version.

anyone got any idea what may be wrong?

could there be a compatibility issue with any installed components?

O.S: Windows XP Pro
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 5000+ 2x2.6 GHz [AM2 Socket]
RAM: 1 GB DDR2 667 MHz
GPU: Nvidia XFX GeForce 7600 GS [PC-1 Express]

iv managed to solve this one myself, so for anyone that may encounter the same problem, there is a simple solution...

right click on the autorun.exe in the directory of the game, and choose windows 2000 as a compatibility.
