Neither of which are needed if you do a clean install with an XP Pro Corporate Disc..

its perfectly ok to install xp pro over any os but you should use your own key. also i do recommend formatting and a clean installation on the ntfs platform

I do have an illegal copy of my friend's XP Pro, would that work?

Awesome, but I heard Microsoft auto-uninstalls illegal copies of XP (like when auto-updating and stuff). Is this true?
the post has issues about using valid keys and he wants to upgrade not do a clean install which i recommended. ntfs is far more stable than fat32 i was just saying how he can upgrade and not lose programs like he wants, change the key to one of his own and then convert to ntfs afterwards for a more stable platform, does my post not cover those issues?
