any body use this type of zalman cooler?
Hi im looking to get a new mobo and a new heat sink to go with it seen as the mobo ive got atm was suppose to be temporary. The heat sink im looking to get is a Zalman CNPS9700NT (Heatsink), ive heard that its quite big. The problem that ive come across is the new mobo i was thinking of getting Asus crosshair nForce 590 SLI (MOBO). I think there might be a problem with the heatsink, it might be to big for the mobo. I was thinking it might hit the copper pipes. Has any body got any thoughts on this?

I have never used that one but I have used a few biggies in mytime. My latest is the Enzotech Extreme X

This is a monster cooler. Others have been tight too but I have always found a way to make em fit well. I had a Gigabyte board and used the blue orb II cooler and the fins on the cooler actually fit in between the fins on the NB heatsink it was close but it worked. I say go for it and if it don't fit send it back.

I've used that HSF on several boards with no clearance issues.
Never tried it on a nVidia board though but the amount of space available looks similar so I wouldn't expect any trouble.
Re: any body use this type of zalman cooler?
cool, i'll give it ago:)
Detale i use a blue orb II but it doesnt go fast enough, that zalman one goes nearlly 1000 RPM faster. The orb II is a cracking fan dont get me wrong i was soooo happy when i got it, wasnt after i put it in like, it took me a good half an hour to fix it in cos of those bastard screws!!!!!
Re: any body use this type of zalman cooler?
I know my screws broke off too :0 Thats why I went with a different cooler

Buy a Zalaman Reserator. It's the one I had (whicih I still did!).
Otherwise I have the Zalman CNPS8700 and it works great!
Re: any body use this type of zalman cooler?
im going to buy the res1 V2, it's easy to install and no fuss, the res2 is to expensive its basically a mini radiator next your pc.
Re: any body use this type of zalman cooler?
At 24" tall, there ain't nothing "mini" about a Reserator.
Doesn't the V.2 version use 3/8" tubing?
If so, I'd upgrade the waterblock right away.
Re: any body use this type of zalman cooler?
I use that same one right now and dont have a problem with it
You can see how big it is here and the temp at idle below overclocked a little too so might be lower if not

Re: any body use this type of zalman cooler?
well you have the same CPU as me:p im getting a new mobo to oc mine tis why im gonna go with w/c.
@clocker, im not sure about the tubing. Im getting an external 'kit' so everything i know is compatible so i dont think i will have to mess about with tubing. The simpler the w/c kit the better in my books:)
