Windows 7 Beta in December?
"According to ZDNet, anonymous sources close to Microsoft have claimed that Beta 1 of Windows 7 should be out sometime in mid to late December. Also, it seems likely because of a December release, those who attend Microsoft’s tech conferences in the coming months (Professional Developers Conference in October and Windows Hardware Engineering Conference in November), might not get that early look at the beta they were hoping for."
"While the beta seems to be several months off, a small and select group of users have been privy to the two Milestone builds of Windows 7, with a third build supposedly on the way.
If we do see a beta in December, it would make the supposed late-2009 release of Windows 7 look much more realistic, given that the new "major release" OS would have about 12 months as an official beta. However, it would not be a total surprise if he release got pushed to early 2010. A wide release beta will likely happen whenever the expected features of Windows 7 are complete. This will more than likely include Internet Explorer 8, Windows Media Center, a possible "superbar" and updates to old favourites like WordPad, Paint, and the taskbar.
One of the more skeptical features of the new OS is the goal of a 15-second boot time. With current mainstream technology, and even looking forward to the next one or two hardware development cycles, this seems unlikely. However, if something like Intel’s Turbo Memory were to become more popular, we could see more software take advantage of having anywhere from 1GB of flash or more to play with. With Turbo Memory available in a myriad of laptops (but not nearly as many desktops), it wouldn’t be a total shock to see Microsoft take full advantage of this extra memory in the future.
As far as betas go, Windows 7 shouldn’t be any different from previous endeavours. According to Windows Customer Engineering program manager Christina Storm, "we will also be collecting feedback from this (Windows Feedback) panel and asking for participation from a set of Windows 7 beta users. Our current plans call for signing up for the beta to happen in the standard Microsoft manner on http://connect.microsoft.com." So for those of you who want the earliest glimpse of Windows 7 possible, keep hitting F5 on the Microsoft Connect site."

i personally think "windows 7" should wait. i don't have any problems with my current OS (winvista) and think it deserves a longer life then MS is giving it.

as for this i really don't see why win7 CAN'T do this or winvista at that. my pc completely shuts down in less than 5 secs and completely boots in 50 secs. with my dating hardware and the better ddr3/hdd's and so forth out there 15 secs should be a no brainer.
i for one vote give vista a longer lifespan!

According to rumors,the forthcoming Operating System will be built around a more modular iteration of the Vista kernel.And so-called MinWin kernel,which fills just 25MB of disk space and runs in 40MB of memory may not be it.
Windows 7 Infos
Microsoft hasn't said much officially about Windows 7 yet,but Bill Gates said in Japan that it would "be lower power,take less memory,be more efficient and have lots more connections up to the mobile phone". Also he said that "if you have two computers,your files automatically are synchronized between them,so you won't have a lot of work to move data back and forth".
Release Date
We don't know exactly when Windows 7 will appear from late 2008 to 2010.
Why it's called Windows 7?
To see why it's called Windows 7,open CMD in your current OS version and type VER. Under XP you'll see "5.1.2600".Under Vista you'll see "6.0.6001". So in Windows 7 it'll be "7.X.XX".

No one knows exaxctly what new features will be in Windows 7(But Internet Explorer 8 will be exactly).Also Windows 7 will have built-in features: "Live Mesh",a Web-based system for sharing and synchronizing folders,syncing mobile devices with your PC and so on.

Many clues to what the Windows 7 development team is thinking about can be found in the Windows Feedback Button in the early builds.This Feedback tool invites developers to comment on the five "pillars" on which Windows 7 will be built.Each is devided into a number of scenarios.
The Five Pillars
The first pillar is "Specialized for Laptops".Scenarios associated with it include data security,speed,wireless improvements,synchronization and power management.One scenario called "Touch and Tabled Usability".There is a rumors that Microsoft having been stung by the touch-screen keyboard in Apple's iPhone, is planning something even better for Windows.Microsoft announced plans to integrate multitouch technology in Windows 7.
The second pillar is "Designed for Services".This includes the Live Mesh.This category also includes "The Family Friendly Web Expreience",which means some form of site filtering,perhaps integrated into Live Mesh.
The Third pillar is "Personalized Computing for Everyone".This means that desktop will make use of local music and images.Also this pillate includes ability to access your files,folders,bookmarks and passwords from anywhere.
The fourth is "Optimized for Entertainment".It includes home-media streaming,better High DPI graphics than in Vista.Also the will be new version of Windows Media Center - named "Fiji".The new features that Windows Media Center will have is QAM support.It means that digital cable TV signals can flow into a PC without a set-top box.Also it will have support for DirectTV tuners and better guides to avalaible HD programming.
The last pillar is "Engineered for Ease of Ownership",which includes improved installation time.
Virtual Environments
One feature likely to appear in Windows 7 is built-in hypervisor that lets Windows 7 launch and interact with virtual machines like those VMWare or Virtual PC.

nahh, in vista they also moved every setting to a new, harder to find location:)
