What software can I use to cut those big long video files in half so i can fit them on to 2 cd's as a VCD file. Please help thanx. Plus an explanation of how it is done would be brillant too.

you can use a program called TMPGEnc, interface isn't all that hard... if you need help just click help in the tool bar. Very nice and handy program to have :P
There is a section on that in the vcd section of the link in my signature.
