(2nd Try) What type of cable is this?
In relation to the other thread i posted.
I need to know what type of cable the grey one is
which connects between the wall socket and the main box 3 floors up.
His "grey" cable is cut off by his hallway, so he needs it extended.
Hope these images make it clearer.

It seems like normal telephone copper cable, like the same one used in the RJ-11 standard phone cord wire! attached...
You may confirm it through his ISP!
Re: (2nd Try) What type of cable is this?
If you have a look on the plastic shielding of the grey cable it will give you the details for the type of cabling it is. Depending on the age of the PBX on the third floor, there are different types possible. Most likely the cable will be CAT5 but checking the shielding and reporting back what is on the shield will confirm this.
Re: (2nd Try) What type of cable is this?
On the image above,of the cable (enlarged), i do make out the text "CAT5E"
So i guess he needs CAT5 cable
Is that the official lingo, in shops?
.

It says right on the cable that it's cat5e.
I believe that's what I told you in the other thread as well. :whistling
To do the connection cable to cable you might want to buy some of these:

I call them scotch connectors not sure the proper name.
You just insert two of the same colored wires into it and then squeeze it with pliers, repeat for the other 7 wires. :)

Well you could go in and ask for Category 5 cabling, but they would think you were a plonker, rather than knowledgeable :naughty:
Re: (2nd Try) What type of cable is this?
If he waddles in they'll think that anyway.
You've got to square up the shoulders, develop a steely glint in the eyes and stride confidently to the counter and demand some cat5 cable.
Otherwise the emo little fuck salesperson will know he's got you.
And for God's sake, don't acknowledge that you know what his D&D tee shirt actually means.
