perhaps i'm missing something here. You said you got some software off kazaa. Usually software carries with it an .exe extension, at least thats what kazaa uses to classify the media. I also assumed you double clicked the file to see what would happened and instead of it executing or running you got an error which said it wasn't a valid 32 bit app. Which means the file did have a .exe extension because it tricked windows into attempting to run it. If it hadn't had a .exe extention windows would have looked for an association to another executable and if it couldn't find one it would have asked what program to use to open the file. But it didn't, from what I understand, it attempted to run it.
