How to create a decent XviD BRRip ?
can anyone give me a proper way to create good BRRips such as SANTi / ViSiON ones (or post a tuto in the "guides and tutorials" section) ?
i've come across some guides on the net but they were all pretty basic (too little explanations, random settings etc...)
thanks in advance.

Essentially, the process will be exactly the same as ripping a DVDR to standard def XViD.avi. So, initially follow this guide in setting everything up:
http://www.rita.lt/guides/GKnot_DVDtoAVI.htm
The main programs this guide uses is DGIndex, Gordian Knot and XViD.
DGIndex supports BD file types, and will create the .d2v file
Load the .d2v file into GK, ensure resolution/wanted file size/bitrate are all appropriate.
In XViD setting, ensure that the "profile @ level", atleast for the second pass, is set to "highdef".
Now wait 4 hours.

I've used that method above (XviD4PSP) and it works quite well.. settings are variable just as if you make a DVDRip and depends on what you want. Most of the p2p groups use 6 chan AC3 and go for 2000 kbps upwards. Others use the scene-style predetermined sizes eg 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 and full DVD. Depends on what you want. Once you find a good blu-ray rip in MKV (eg ESiR, CtrlHD etc) it's easy to set up..just takes longer to re-encode than the usual DVDRip.
Best source is one at a higher resolution than you want e.g. get a 1080p MKV--> 720 BRRip, 720 MKV --> 480p BRRIp, though I noticed lately groups like NPQ &Rx are using 720 br MKV for 720 BRRips...
Here's details of a dual audio 480p BRRip I did from an Akira MKV using Xvid4PSP (video bitrate's a bit low as i was aiming for a certain size but looks great still)

Pretty satisfying once it's finished even though it's re-encoding! :D

cheers mate, that's the answer i was looking for.
i usually reencode mkv's using Virtualdubmod, Avysynth and MKVEWizard but never tried with a 720p.
thanks again.

 fair play but it's just a GUI for the same tools (vdub & avisynth at least). I use both methods..the "from scratch" or the "auto" which can be good if you've done it the old-fashioned way and thus know how to tweak all the options to get what you want. It does create "decent" to very good BRRips (could upa s ample but it's neither here or there)..if you want excellent however, then from scratch is best yes ;)
Good luck!

ok thanks, i thought the whole process was more or less automated.
