TBH I can't watch an entire episode, much as I love watching fat people being humiliated, and as much as I love watching Americans being humiliated. Combining the two has made it far too much for me to take an entire episode in one hit.
There's also the weigh in, every time I've seen that I get undesirable images in my head of Mary sitting in front of a TV wanking... it's really very disturbing.
It's not about humiliation,it's about empowerment.
Empowerment and product placement.
I shall have a look at the British version I think I might be better able to cope with watching fat Brits being abused.
I avoid almost all of the reality shows. I stumbled across this show after taking a class from a very large, and equally kind, woman who had spoken highly of the show to us. The contestants work very hard and their struggles have been long. Often their lives have been filled with ridicule.
I'm certain there are "tons" of people who sit around and eat nothing but junkfood, and do not care about their health, what anyone thinks of them, or are willing to make the effort to improve. The people who are on shows like that have gone through interviews and have strong desires to overcome one of their greatest personal challenges. They aren't the ones to make fun of, IMO.
What I take from it is that if someone is committed enough, near anything is possible.
I'm sure they edit the fuck out the show but when I see a 300 lb fatty refusing to give up under the strain of intense physical effort ,it makes me question why I ever should.
