Simple Unpacker [ For Unpacking Usenet Downloads ]
This software is for Windows machines only!
Attachment 146861
This is a program for unpacking Usenet Downloads.
What does it do ?..
You put the file in the same folder as your downloaded files and run it.
It will repair the files if they need it using the par2 recovery files ( as long as the necessary Par2 files have been downloaded ).
It will then unpack the archives.
It will also clean up the uneeded files into a folder and leave you with just the files you need.
It will handle several different downloads in one folder ( One after another until completed ).
Latest Version v1.0.1.6
Has support added for double packed archives common with smaller game downloads, it will now retest after the first unpack for other archives and extract again
Usefull with smaller download packers like Twizted Ends and Fc4g groups
It does not need any compression or par2 software installed as its included within the file
If you have WinRAR installed it will make use of it for the unpacking which is slightly faster
You can add it to your uploads if you like, so it arrives and all they have to do is run it (which is it's purpose). Although it must be outside of the rar's to be directly useable.
It was developed on a system with no compression software installed so I'm pretty sure it will work on most systems.
It should cover most types of archive for the unpacking
Things it will not do...
1] It will not unpack a set of files if they are damaged beyond the par ability to repair, it has to be possible.
2] Unpack at the speed of light. It takes a similar amount of time that your normal compression software would ... be patient.
You can leave it in your downloads folder if you like but be aware any loose files it finds will end up in the Downloaded Files folder that it creates
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was developed with the help of many members from different nzb forums and many thanks to them for all the patient testing.
Uh lemme play Bellerophon for a sec and say this seems like a solution looking for a problem. I see this exe posted more and more often. What par2 backend do you use? What about generic .00x type split files, ace, that proprietary French one, etc? Care to provide the source? My newsreader handles everything already; otherwise multipar + winrar/7zip + hjsplit if I need to do things manually.
Ok the problem already existed of people that have trouble unpacking files from the Usenet, for which this software is one possible solution
And as an experienced user you know how to do this stuff without aid .. so without being rude its maybe not for you.
However in these days we need to help the less experienced to both upload easily and download easily so we keep the numbers using The Usenet in the majority .. together we are stronger ... this software is just another tool in the toolbox
This software does nothing different to traditional methods it just does it for you ( think of it like an automated way ).
It utilizes existing software to achieve that end and will also use multipar etc to unpack most downloads
We all join to help and share ( well most do ) and this is just one of my contributions.
Re: Simple Unpacker ~ [ For Downloaders To Use ]
seems like an udated to what autounpack was/is
Re: Simple Unpacker ~ [ For Downloaders To Use ]
ExtractAll and/or Par Buddy seem superior, although the latter has a heavier footprint. I thought most bin clients (Newsleecher, Grabit, SAB) have repair, joining and extraction built in by now though.
Your synopsis whilst well founded and correct. Most if not all download clients will Par / Rar and Unpack normal file groups.
In a changing scene unfortunately 50% or more of uploads are now obfuscated or randomised, forcing the majority of download clients to struggle or fail to manage these file groups.
This program is only one of many solutions in the evolving world of Usenet.
All ideas and participation from any source are welcome to the Usenet or Nzb community.
Avast says your file has a trojan in it.
Re: Simple Unpacker ~ [ For Downloaders To Use ]
The popular clients don't have a problem with filenames. I really wish you or Qmax or whomever would stop attaching that exe to posts. Nobody in their right mind would execute that, and sooner or later somebody is going to get caught in the trick bag running what they think is your program. Bad precedent.
I'm glad you want to contribute, but that doesn't put you or anybody else above scrutiny.
I did look at the Virustotal. It says Avast passed it. Why does my current (Free) version of Avast treat it as a trojan. I'd expect that from a keygenerator or a crack. It should not happen with what looks like a rar file.
