The 'Copyright Alert System' is kinda old news isn't it?
The word 'illegal' is rather strong, considering that sharing of copyright material is considered a civil matter, rather than a criminal matter, in many countries.
Illegal activities include rape and murder, robbery and house breaking, auto theft, terrorist activity and selling national secrets. Sharing of copyright material doesn't even appear alongside these 'illegal' activities.
I would be interested in what law is being broken. While the US may have specific laws regarding intellectual property, not every country does, and while IP may be protected in many countries, it is more a jurisdiction of the civil system rather than the criminal system for chasing breaches.
Mind you, it is clever of the US legal eagles to manage to convert a civil case into a criminal case, using the legal system to prosecute file sharers alongside rapists, murderers and terrorists.
so they moved from a 3 strike system to 6?
