NZBgeek bulk data collection: a ripe target for the picking by LE and others
Interesting thread on /r/usenet
anal_full_nelson's posts are the only reason I visit that horrid sub.

He very well might be. However, being a blowhard and knowing what you're talking about aren't mutally exclusive. I don't use geek, just found it interesting whether I agree with him or not.
At the very least it beats another "fix baby's first Drone/CP/Sab setup" or "join X, the newest whiz-bang indexer" thread.

Interesting stuff, not that I really understand if the risk is true or not. Thanks for the heads up though! :)

Nothing at this point. These breaches are why I use 1. unique names and passwords, 2. a disposable e-mail address, 3. Tor (unless disallowed) for new accounts. Of course, there are no workarounds for stuff like download history or payment details. Best you can do is use an indexer with a good privacy policy and hope their security policy matches.
The most attractive details for hackers are e-mails and passwords (for spam and credential stuffing), but payment information is juicy too. Fortunately, it seems credit card numbers were not stored or breached in this particular case.

Just like with US military systems, I'm guessing attempts are made every day. :bye:

Ah attempts and success are a different story right:D
Usually the best way to pay is with a prepaid Visa of some sorts, but sometimes they don't get accepted???
